A Preacher’s Perspective

Thanks to all who made last week’s meeting a success! Brother Jones preached the gospel, as well as helped us to improve our congregational singing. What a way to kick off the new year!

Our Gospel Meeting was great because our preacher respected the authority of the Bible. Isn’t it refreshing to hear the Bible preached in its purity! Brother Jones’ attitude was that of Micaiah, “As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak” (1 Kgs. 22:14). A preacher who declares, “…I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more” (Num. 22:18) is worth his weight in gold!.

Did you notice all of our visitors? At least nine area congregations made the cold trip to DeKalb to support us in our meeting. That speaks well of them, but it also speaks volumes about our desire to strengthen the Lord’s body in NE Texas. By providing events such as this, we are not only helping ourselves, but those around us.

What a wonderful time of fellowship we had! I suppose there is nothing that recharges our spiritual batteries more than good old-fashion fellowship. I noticed that several of our members seemed to deeply enjoy talking with brother Jones before and after the services, as well as in some homes. In fact, some may have wanted him to stay here longer! As a preacher, Gospel Meeting time is special – a needed break from routine, and a time to access the wisdom of years from long-time preachers.

A special thank you go to all who prepared meals and bought lunches for brother Jones, and for my family as well. Brother Jones was very thankful for all your kindnesses toward him, as are we.

Be praying for our good elders as they plan more exciting, edifying times in the future!
