America’s Homes Need God

By Michael Gilbert

America is at a point in its history where loyalty to God is at an all time low. There are those who still respect the Creator of the universe, but the number is declining. America’s faith in God has faded into mere “lipservice”. It is acceptable to “talk the talk”, but when a person tries to “walk the walk”, he or she is called intolerant, mean-spirited, and unloving. We need to reverse this trend.

America’s homes need a healthy respect for God because they are the building block of society. Let us notice three simple points in this regard.

God Has Ordained Government. Paul wrote, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Rom. 13:1). What crosses your mind when you think about the government? Do you ever think about the fact that the government officials come from homes? It may have been an ideal home where mother and father were admirably fulfilling their God-given duties as parents, or it possibly was a broken home, but nevertheless it was a home.

God Has Also Established The Church. Christ powerfully proclaimed His intention to build His church when He said, “…and upon this rock I will build my church” (Matt. 16:18). What crosses your mind when you consider the church? Do you ever think about the fact that the church is made up of people who come from homes? Some members come from good homes, while others come from a broken home-life.

God Has Sanctioned The Home. The first man understood this when he said, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Gen. 2:24). What crosses your mind when you consider the home? Did you ever think about the fact that homes are made up of people who came from either good or bad homes?

Here’s my point: since government is made up of people who come from homes, and the church is made up of people who come from homes, and the home is made up of people who come from homes, then homes must be pretty important! In the fact that the home is the building block of our society lies the importance of good, God-fearing homes. Do you see the need for God in the homes of this great nation?
